This pattern was originally created for use at Buda Castle (also known as the Royal Palace) during the reign of Francis Joseph I who was Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary. Initially created in the 1870s, it consisted of a golden laurel wreath branch and bore the monogram of Francis Joseph as well as the Hungarian Crown.

This version features multi-hued green laurel leaves punctuated by golden highlights.

  • Hand washing in mild detergent is recommended. Avoid abrasives and lemon-based soaps.
  • If a dishwasher is used:
    • Avoid overloading to eliminate potential for chipping
    • Avoid lemon-based dishwashing liquids and abrasive powders
    • Lower temperature settings are best
    • Cool at the end of the drying cycle before removing items
  • Never microwave an item with gold or platinum trim.
  • Avoid storing acid-based foods in a painted porcelain container for an extended period of time.
  • Dust with a soft cloth and non-lemon-based products. Avoid abrasives.
  • When storing, place felt pads (available from your Herend retailer) or other padding for protection between stacked plates.
